Blue jeans have been around since the 1800’s and for good reason. A good pair, which fits good will last forever. Viewpoints with Terry Bradshaw celebrates the birthday of blue jeans, albeit a day late.
Where Blue Jeans Wore Born
Jeans were born in the 1800’s when someone asked a tailor to find a way to keep pockets from ripping on his pants. The tailor came up with a pair of riveted pants but thought someone would steal his idea. So he paired up with dry goods maker Levi Strauss and thus jeans were born. They are seen in photos way back then on hard labor workers who toiled in the mines, fruit picking business and in factories. Since then, they are the one item of clothing most people have in their closet.
The Jeans of Today
The Viewpoints TV show recognizes that jeans have come a long way since then. They are now sold in a variety of fabrics, colors and styles. Jeans are worn by everyone from babies to great-grandmas. Americans buy 450 million pairs a year. Most of us have seven pairs in the closet. Jeans can cost as little as $35 and as much as $400 or more, depending on who makes them. They are adorned with colorful stitchery, rhinestones and some even have diamond chips sewn in. Their styles are eclectic as the person who wears them. Happy Birthday to blue jeans that now come in more colors than a box of Crayons.
